Aug 12, 2023; Bedminster, New Jersey, USA; Bernd Wiesberger plays his shot from the third tee during the second round of the LIV Golf Bedminster golf tournament at Trump National Bedminster. Wiesberger, an eight-time winner on the European tour, left to join LIV in 2022. The 38-year-old lost his contract after finishing 41st in the individual standings in the 2023 LIV season and became a free agent. The DP World Tour said Wiesberger had fulfilled all sanctions imposed on him for competing in the rival tour. "Consequently, his request for reinstatement has been granted by DP World Tour Chief Executive Keith Pelley, in accordance with the procedure set out in the Members' Regulations," the DP World Tour said in a statement.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Matt Wallace made nine consecutive birdies Saturday, all of them on the back nine for a 12-under 60 in the DP World Tour Championship. Wallace had a chance at the only the second 59 in European tour history. The nine consecutive birdies equal the European tour's best by James Nitties of Australia in the 2019 Vic Open. Wallace also matched the European best — but not an official record — with 12 birdies in one round. The rest of the way, two birdies were from 6 feet and the rest were from 3 feet or closer.

Wallace hit the ball so purely down the stretch that his final six birdie putts covered a total of 15 feet, 8 inches (nearly 5 meters). Just tried my hardest to get myself back into the tournament," said Wallace, who started the day seven shots behind. Even so, the Norwegian star was in position to capture the season-ending titles on the PGA Tour and the European tour. The European tour record is nine consecutive birdies by James Nitties of Australia in the 2019 Vic Open, and 12 birdies for a round by Raphaël Jacquelin in the 2013 Turkish Open. He had a chance at only the second 59 in European tour history.

Phase Two, or Free Agency, involves those TOP 24 players who opted to become free agents and those who finished 25th to 44th whose contracts have expired. They can be re-signed by their previous team or negotiate with a team with an open roster spot. Cleeks GC have two open roster spots with both Bernd Wiesberger and Graeme McDowell finishing outside the Top 24, and Ripper GC also have two spots with Jediah Morgan relegated, although they have the option to re-sign Matt Jones. Fireballs GC, captained by Sergio Garcia, have one open spot as Carlos Ortiz declined a contract extension and opted for free agency, and Phil Mickelson's HyFlyers GC have an open spot after James Piot's relegation. Phase Two will finish when four roster spots remain, which are reserved for the winner of the International Series 2023 rankings, Andy Ogletree, and the top three at LIV Golf Promotions in Abu Dhabi in December.
